Consecration to St. Joseph is a filial act of love and entrustment. Total consecration to St. Joseph means you entrust yourself entirely to his paternal care so he can lovingly help you acquire his virtues and become holy—while St. Joseph, in turn, gives you his “loving attention, protection, and guidance.” Why does this matter right now? Because the Church and the world urgently need St. Joseph’s help: to return to the love of Jesus, to live lives of virtue, and to receive protection—especially as the family and the Church face real spiritual assault. Joseph protected the Holy Family; he will protect us, too, when we entrust ourselves to his paternal heart; a heart that is one with the hearts of Jesus and Mary. In his book, Fr. Calloway reveals a beautiful “secret” of St. Joseph’s care: he is “The Increaser.” Just as Jesus “increased in wisdom and stature” under the care of Mary and Joseph, so can your spiritual life also “increase” when you entrust yourself to St. Joseph’s fatherly care—an increase in God’s presence and virtue. And if you’ve already consecrated yourself to Mary, don’t worry—this is not “either/or.” Consecration to Mary is not diminished by consecration to St. Joseph. God desires that we live in the love and care of both a mother and a father—Mary as spiritual mother and Joseph as spiritual father—the perfect spiritual parents!
