Become instruments of mercy in her hands

Fr. Gaitley shares today the depth of St. Maximilian Kolbe’s spirituality — a vision where we don’t just belong to Mary, we become her instruments. Not in a vague or passive way, but in a living, conscious union with her heart and mission. Kolbe didn’t just want to work for Mary — he wanted to be so entirely hers that she could love others through him.

To be “an instrument of the Immaculata” means being a willing channel of her love, her intercession, and her desire to bring souls to Jesus. Kolbe took this idea further by saying we’re not simply instruments, but rather extensions of her — her eyes, hands, voice, heart. The goal is not just to do things for Mary, but to allow her to think, act, and love through us.

Fr. Gaitley reminds us this is only possible when we are fully possessed by Mary — when we give her not just our actions, but our interior life. Then, she can infuse us with her virtues and offer every part of us to God. This isn’t spiritual slavery — it’s spiritual transformation.

Through consecration, we become more than servants. We become instruments of mercy in her hands, alive with the grace of the Holy Spirit. Mary doesn’t want us to be tools — she wants us to be her beloved companions in the mission of saving souls. All she asks is everything — so she can give us everything in return.
