Mary helps us say yes every day

In today’s reflection, Fr. Gaitley shares the three powerful visions that Mother Teresa received in 1947, which deepened and clarified her mission to serve the poorest of the poor. These mystical experiences were deeply personal, filled with divine tenderness, and rich with meaning — not only for her, but for all who seek to follow Christ with the help of Mary.

In the first vision, Mother Teresa saw a crowd of the poor and suffering. Among them was Jesus on the Cross, with Mary close by. He cried out, “I thirst,” and Mary turned to Mother Teresa, saying, “Bring them to Jesus. Carry Jesus to them.” This set the tone: Mary was not just present — she was an active guide, helping Mother Teresa hear and respond to Jesus’ cry.

The second and third visions revealed even more deeply the unity between Jesus, Mary, and those in need. Jesus asked for Mother Teresa’s heart, her willingness to suffer for love, and her trust. Mary’s role was to help her persevere — to help her say yes every day.

Fr. Gaitley emphasizes that these visions reflect a spirituality meant for us, too. Mary helps us hear the cry of Jesus: “I thirst.” She also helps us discover how we are uniquely called to satisfy that thirst — through prayer, love, sacrifice, and service.

Through consecration, Mary strengthens our response. She gives us her heart to live our mission of love.
