The Motive: Union with Jesus
De Montfort teaches that the purpose of consecration is always union with Jesus Christ. True devotion to Mary is entirely Christ-centered. We go to her not as an end in herself but as the surest way to reach Him.
Mary never keeps glory for herself. Her whole being magnifies the Lord, and her only desire is to bring souls to the Heart of her Son. When we entrust ourselves to her, we are entering into the deepest form of discipleship — learning to love, obey, and trust Jesus as she did.
This is why De Montfort insists that authentic Marian devotion always leads to a more intimate relationship with Christ. Through Mary, we come to know His mercy more deeply, love Him more purely, and serve Him more faithfully.
Our consecration, then, is a personal response to Jesus’ invitation to abide in Him — with Mary as our gentle guide on the way.
