Her heart reveals the presence of God

In today’s reflection, Fr. Gaitley invites us into the prayerful interior life of Mary — a life marked by silence, attentiveness, and deep trust. The Gospel often tells us that Mary “pondered these things in her heart,” especially in moments of mystery, suffering, or surprise. Her heart was not closed or passive, but open, alert, and listening.

Mother Teresa learned to imitate this Marian quality of “heart-pondering prayer.” She knew that to live her mission faithfully, she had to stay spiritually awake — not just in moments of clarity or consolation, but especially in the hidden, ordinary trials of daily life. Through Mary, she learned to recognize that God is always speaking, always moving, and always giving grace — often through small, simple moments.

Fr. Gaitley teaches that Mary is always at work in our lives, arranging circumstances and people, even setbacks, for our sanctification. But unless we are prayerfully attentive — unless we ponder — we might miss the graces she’s preparing.

Mary helps us receive these graces with humility and gratitude. Her pondering heart shows us how to slow down, reflect, and ask, “What is God doing here?” Consecration to her helps form this habit in us — not rushing through life, but allowing grace to deepen in our souls.

Today, we are invited to stay alert, to notice, and to reflect with Mary. Her heart reveals the presence of God even in silence — and teaches us to treasure every grace He gives.
