Stay close to Mary and let the Holy Spirit work in us
Today, Fr. Gaitley brings us back to the profound Marian theology of St. Maximilian Kolbe, especially his insight into Mary’s unparalleled relationship with the Holy Spirit. Kolbe believed that Mary’s union with the Spirit is so deep, so intimate, that it surpasses even the closest human relationships — even that of a perfect marriage. She is not divine, but she is so totally united to the will and movement of the Spirit that she becomes His perfect instrument.
Because of this union, the greatest way we can glorify God is by uniting ourselves to Mary. She is the creature most conformed to God’s will, the one through whom the Holy Spirit formed Jesus, and the one He continues to use to form Christ in us. Kolbe reminds us that when we give ourselves entirely to Mary, we allow her to direct every part of us toward God’s glory.
Fr. Gaitley emphasizes that Mary isn’t just spiritually powerful — she is personally close. She is our Mother, tender and attentive, and can do anything for us when it’s in God’s will. Like the Holy Spirit overshadowed her at the Annunciation, He longs to do the same in us — to fill us with divine life. And Mary prepares us for this gift.
Today’s reflection invites us to trust more deeply in Mary’s intercession. If we stay close to her, the Holy Spirit will work in us more freely, forming us into saints and drawing us closer to the heart of Jesus.
