Let Jesus’ desire for our hearts awaken our desire for Him

In today’s reflection, Fr. Gaitley introduces us to St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a modern saint whose life was marked by a burning love for Jesus and a deep intimacy with the suffering of His Heart. We now enter the third week of preparation, turning to her example to understand Marian consecration through the lens of loving union with Christ.

Mother Teresa lived her entire mission as a response to Jesus’ cry from the Cross: “I thirst.” She believed this wasn’t simply a physical thirst, but a divine longing for love — God’s thirst for souls, and also our thirst for God. This mutual thirst forms the heart of sanctity.

Mary, the Mother of Sorrows, understands this thirst more than anyone. She stood at the foot of the Cross, enduring unspeakable pain and humiliation with her Son. Her silence, her tears, and her unwavering presence teach us how to love in suffering. She didn’t run from the Cross — she embraced it out of love.

Fr. Gaitley explains that Marian consecration, especially in the spirit of Mother Teresa, is not about avoiding pain, but transforming it. By uniting ourselves with the pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary, our suffering becomes fruitful, our longing becomes holy, and our lives become love.

Today, we are invited to enter that thirst — to let Jesus’ desire for our hearts awaken our desire for Him. And Mary, full of grace and sorrow, leads us to that place.
